Kimpton’s Monaco: Hotel Whimsy in Pittsburgh

Maybe ‘whimsy’ and Pittsburg don’t seem like a natural pairing, but in this revitalized, booming city, Hotel Monaco brings more than a dash of flair and the good vibes that Kimpton is known for.  I’m here for just one over-night, part of a longer and much-anticipated Mother’s Day weekend. Long a fan of the Kimpton group and for good reason, I wanted to check out this relatively new edition (and here on my dime, so this is from the heart).  The hotel is reflective of Pittsburgh’s resurgence, crafted out of an early 19c Beaux Arts style building. It has the signature Kimpton energy and vibrant, color-loaded style. In a city that Andy Warhol called home, the newly imagined Monaco fits right in.  (I had a lovely light snack here last evening but, full disclosure, ate half of it before remembering to take a snap.)

A few post cards below:

The hallway – pattern explosion!

Color and pattern – and note the birdcage fixture in my room….

And lastly, a stately exterior from the Beaux Arts era of the early 19th century
