The experimental first year stretched to fifteen, a magical and transformative period. During that time I jump-started a career, earned a graduate degree (ok, an MBA) that broadened and deepened interests, grew professionally, saw two adult sons marry savvy women and was graced by grandchildren. Travel through work whetted a pre-existing condition known as “curiosity about the world” and opened up, literally, new vistas. The travel hook, always there, was now deep-set.

And then, suddenly, I knew it was time to break camp in New York, a city I love and will always long for. But a desire to turn the page, to try something new, inspired me to undertake a drastic change: I moved from an elegant one bedroom apartment (and I emphasize ONE) on New York’s Upper West Side to an 1860’s Italianate town house in Hudson, New York, about 100 miles north of the city. This has been a sea-change, at once defining and expanding opportunities.
So, in a nutshell, that’s me: traveling along a course that’s both external and internal and unfolding in these pages. It is my hope that you’ll come along, and share your own journey via comments, email or the occasional guest post.
