The Tuscany That Will Inspire You

Tuscany has been an inspiration for centuries.  Its great city-state of the 14th century, Florence, gave birth to the Renaissance which in turn inspired the humanistic philosophy of the modern era. Travel in a leisurely discovery of the small towns of the region, such as Montrechi, pictured above, or spend the perfect afternoon at La Foce, near Pienza.  Hopefully, this brief picture tour, a smattering of the region, serves as an inspiration for you to add Tuscany to your bucket list, or revisit this special place. Anghiari is a favorite of mine, a magnificent ‘hill town’ near Arezzo. I was fortunate enough to spend some time in that vicinity in the company of  friends at a private home. However, check out VRBO for wonderful rentals throughout Tuscany.  IMG_5212

Sansepolcro is close to Anghiari; a charming town with Wednesday farmer’s markets, lovely restaurants and a beautiful cathedral with alabaster window.

Sansepolcro is rich in Renaissance art: it is the birthplace of Renaissance painter  Piero della Francesca, whose famed painting Resurrection is on display at the Museo Civico.  There, too, you’ll find lovely work from Renaissance sculptor and ceramicist  Andrea Della Robbia.IMG_5173IMG_5160
